The king is 3 inches in height with a 1.25 inch diameter base so this set is meant for a large board (sold separately). Very Nice heavy chessmen

These chessmen are nicer than I anticipated. Heavier and beautiful pieces - the night is as nice as they come. They are very heavy. The polymer pieces somehow have a "wood grain" pattern and look like highly varnished wood. We got the 3.25" King and I like this size. Works OK on a 13" x 13" board (1 3/4" squares but a little larger would be better). For sure you would not want the bigger set on a board this size.
